Adoption
Adopt a Horse
Our goal is to put every rescued horse into a safe and loving home. We pride ourselves on working with our potential adopters to make that possible. Our job is not to judge you but to insure that the horse is placed into a safe and loving environment. The first step in the adoption process is to complete the adoption application. This not only insures that the horse will be in a safe environment but also gives us an idea of what type of situation you have and what type of horse you are looking for.
Current Pictures of all of our available horses are in our Available for Adoption facebook album.
Click below to download the application:
Please fill out our Application
Once it is completed, email it to rescue@centralvahorserescue.com Or mail to CVHR, 389 Boydton Plank Road, Brodnax, VA 23920
Our application is not long and involved. We will base our decision on your references and on the suitability of the horse to the home. We want you to be happy with the horse as well as the horse being happy with you. If you are interested in adopting a horse as a project to be trained and resold at a later date, please contact us as this is possible with some horses.
Unwanted Horses
Unwanted horses are becoming more prevalent as the economy continues to decline. In a lot of cases, people have no choice but to find homes for their animals but they want to make sure that the horses go to a home where they will be well cared for and loved. These horses can be donated to CVHR to be adopted through our adoption program, however, we have limited space available and decision to accept unwanted horses will be on a case by case basis and be based on space available at the farm, funds available and the individual horses circumstances. Horses will be evaluated and made available for adoption and their adoption fees will be used to feed and care for the remaining CVHR horses.
Please understand that as much as we would like to take in every needy and unwanted horse, we are constrained by our space and our funds.
Foster Homes Needed
Central Virginia Horse Rescue is looking for quality foster homes in the Central Virginia and South Central Virginia area. Foster homes will be used for horses that have been vetted and evaluated on site and are waiting for their forever homes. Foster homes agree to continue whatever training is needed and to facilitate adoptions by allowing prospective adopters to visit the horse. Foster homes are responsible for ordinary feed bills. Veterinary & Farrier care will be reimbursed as agreed. Expenses paid by the foster home are tax deductible as a donation.
If you are interested in being a CVHR foster home, please fill out our Application and write FOSTER HOME in the horse’s name. If you are interested in fostering a particular horse, please write the horse’s name as well.

Pictures please if you can! Thanks! And of course give her a big hug!
Hello,
My name is Dee Wilson and I am from Gloucester, Virginia. I have a dear friend (Donna) who is going through a divorce. She has lost her farm to foreclosure and has found homes for most all of her pets. She had 3 horses. I have taken one in but I do not have room for anymore. Of the 2 horses left her sister is taking one but she also has no more room. The last horse is an elderly bay Qh named Casey. He is a gelding and has some kind of arthritis (not sure) in his back legs. He can walk just fine and shows no obvious lameness when walking but when asked to do more it is obvious. He is in good health and farrier care and has all his immunizations. She is working a lot trying to pay bills and so I am trying to help her if I can. Please any advice will be welcome.
Sincerely,
Dee Wilson
Hi Dee, I will send you a private email.
Just curious if you are in need of experienced trainers and riders? I have been riding, showing and training for more years than I care to admit. I have horses here on my farm. Of the 4, 2 are retired, one from high ringbone disease and one from DSLD. The other 2 are ridden on a regular basis, Team roper and competitive trail. I have the time to donate. Would love to help with the training/riding and just putting some miles on your rescue horses.
If this is an option, please contact me via email.
