Dreams and Goals

Once upon a time when I was a child, I had a dream of rescuing the beautiful horses who were run loose through the auctions and went to the kill pens.  I would bring them home and give them a job so that they could go on to have a useful life.   I never stopped dreaming about it and worked with and volunteered with horse rescues through the years.  Life has a funny way of making dreams come true.

A year and a half ago, I decided it was time to make that dream come true in a small way.  I, along with a couple of caring horse people, incorporated the rescue.  Our thought was to be able to help a couple of needy horses at a time and maybe get some donations to help with their care.

As those of you know who have been a part of this from the beginning, it has been a whirlwind since then and one that has had us struggling to keep up.  There are SO many horses in need that we have grown at a phenomenal rate.  We have adopted out 49 horses in 18 months and we have 30 horses and ponies in our care here.

Our struggle is the same as every rescue in the country.  We need everything; funds, volunteers, adoptive homes, better facilities.  We are going to be working on some fundraising campaigns in the coming months and applying for several grants to help with facilities improvement.

My small dream has evolved and with your help, it will continue to grow.  My current dream is twofold.   I want to help people as well as horses by working with youth to give them a place to learn about horses, horse care and to become aware of the plight of our beloved horses and with adults who would benefit from spending time with our horses and learn about the gift that they give us everyday.

We have been accepted by The Mission Continues to host a fellow.  This would mean that a disabled veteran could be paid to work at the rescue.  They would be paid through The Mission Continues.  If you know of someone in the area who would be interested, please contact me.

The second part of my dream is to insure the survival of the rescue after me.  We have worked so hard to build this rescue and I don’t want it to end.  I would like to think that when I can no longer be an active participant in the rescue that it will continue on with other capable people at the helm.  In that light, we will be looking to expand our BOD and to build a fund that will insure its continuity.

My 5 year goal is to find a better facility to house the rescue.  We would like to find a property with either the room to build a bigger barn and riding ring or to find one with an existing barn and arena that would be available on a long term lease or even better purchase.

Our short term goals are to continue to improve our facilities here to allow for better care of our horses.  We will also be starting a campaign to build our volunteer base so that we can offer better programs for people as well as horses.
