Tika came to us from a herd dispersal when it was noticed by the owner that she was having difficulty breathing. We brought her to the rescue to evaluate her condition and when it was determined to be heaves (Recurrent Airway Obstruction) we took her in as a resident.
We noticed Tika was dropping her feed and scheduled her for a dental exam and float. We were quite shocked by what we found when we opened her mouth.
Apparently Tika was kicked or hit in the teeth a long time ago and her upper incisors are broken, missing and twisted. There is no way to repair them at this time so Tika will remain on soaked feed for the rest of her life.
Tika was started on dexamethasone and ventipulmin syrup on her arrival here. She is now recieving daily respiratory therapy with the VibraVM as well as supplements for her breathing. She is getting soaked Sr feed, alfalfa and beet pulp so that we can get her back into condition.
We would like to guarantee Tika a home for life but we can only do that with your help. Please consider sponsoring Tika to help defray her expenses. Her supplements cost approximately $60 per month and her feed is approximately $120 per month. Any help with this is appreciated!
