Welcome To CVHR & Notice
July 9, 2010 No CommentsWelcome to Central Virginia Horse Rescue and thank you for stopping by! I am in the process of incorporating the rescue and waiting for 501 (c)3 status. There is a ton more paperwork than I thought at first. The articles of incorporation have been filed, the board of directors is in the process of being asked to serve and the IRS forms are being filed. If you are interested, in joining the board please send me an email or call. A Board member is an unpaid volunteer position.
The nice thing about incorporating as a non profit and applying for 501(c)3 status is the transparency. All of the books and records have to be made available to the public. Records have to be kept of every horse coming into the rescue and going out of the rescue. Adoption contracts have to be signed for every horse going out.
At this time we do not have any horses available. If you are located in Virginia, you might try one of the other rescues list here or here. I do go to auctions occasionally. Many of the horses that I have rescued have been purchased at an auction.
Prize was purchased at an auction for $5. He was a bit wild when we brought him home. Prize was ‘rescued’ in Canada with a group of POA ponies. He was brought here to Virginia and then the group of them were given to an elderly lady. This lady had never had horses and did not have the pasture or the money to feed them. She meant no harm but once the ponies were thin, she could not find anyone to take them. We gentled him and got him used to people. Putting weight on a starving horse is a slow process as you cannot just throw an unlimited amount of feed to them. Prize gained weight and was placed in a new home.
