Year in Review and 2011 Goals
December 26, 2010 No CommentsIn trying to decide what our goals are for 2011, I have been going back over the facts and figures for 2010. With your help, Central Virginia Horse Rescue accomplished more than I would have thought possible.
- We incorporated the Rescue on July 19, 2010. We got our 501(c)3 designation in November. This by itself is a huge accomplishment but there is more.
- Since July, we have brought 24 horses to safety, 14 of which were from Camelot.
- We have adopted out 9 horses to good loving forever homes.
- We assisted with the rescue and placement of 3 other horses that were at risk. One of them went to Hope’s Legacy Equine Rescue; one went to Sands Forever Friends Rescue and the last stayed in a foster home where she is receiving needed treatment for EPM.
- We currently have 2 permanent residents at the rescue, Rosebud and Karma. We have 12 Adoptable horses and 4 ponies under 12 hands.
- We currently have 3 onsite volunteers that here one or two days per week. We have 3 other volunteers that help out with reference checks and record keeping.
- Prior to July, we had put up about 250 feet of board fence and another 200 ft of better quality farm fencing.
- We doubled the size of our QT paddock and we leased another 12 acres of pasture
Facility Goals for 2011
Looking forward into 2011, our goals are fairly simple. We need to work on our facilities to both improve the conditions that the horses are kept in and to be able to more easily care for them. The following are the major projects for 2011.
- Barn Roof – repaired & cool sealed $1000
- 3 new Run-in sheds $1000 each
- 3 new paddocks to separate horses $753 each
- Repair and replace perimeter fencing
I am looking into grants for a well, fencing and putting water holes in each paddock and pasture. This is a large project and we will only undertake it in 2011 if we can get a grant to do so.
Volunteer Goals
Our volunteers are the key to our success. We want to develop a program that will not only allow them to assist us but also be of benefit to them by increasing their training and experience with horses.
- We are going to develop a more organized Volunteer Program. We want to have volunteer positions with job descriptions. Every volunteer should know what is expected of them and be able to fulfill those expectations without supervision.
- We plan on having monthly volunteer orientations which will include a tour of the facility and safety training.
- We hope to increase our volunteer staff so that we have volunteers onsite on a daily basis. This will help to give each horse more individual attention.
- We hope to have a volunteer trainer here several days a week to work with the young horses.
- Develop a volunteer appreciation program where our volunteers gain recognition for their service.
Horse Goals
Our focus is not on where the horse has come from but where it will go from here. We want each horse to be a valued and valuable member of a family. We want to help them shine so that they can reach their full potential. In keeping with that program, these are our 2011 goals for the horses
- We will have the horses evaluated for training during their initial 30 day QT period.
- We will have all necessary veterinary care started by the end of their QT period and completed within 60 days if possible.
- Provide training for each horse so that they are well started toward reaching their potential.
- Give our adoptable horses the best chance to find their forever home. This means we will have a large focus on marketing and advertising both the horses and the rescue.
We can only accomplish our goals with your help. Through your support, we can provide necessary care and training to give each horse a chance to shine! Please consider Central Virginia Horse Rescue when you are completing your end of the year giving.
